Panamá: Ciudad del Saber

[English version below]

Some people may not know, but the Panama Canal was for many years administered by the United States. In the same region it was also a military base called Clayton. In the 2000s the region was returned to Panama and transformed into a center focused on human development and aiming to improve the quality of life of Panamanians. This place is now called Ciudad del Saber (City of Knowledge).
To reach the Ciudad del Saber is very easy. You can arrive by taxi (always negotiate very well and ask a local how much it is), but is also very easy to reach by bus. As it is a little outside the city, it takes a little to go there by public transportation. The advantage is that it costs only 0.25 cents; the bus leaves from the Albrook terminal and is called “Ciudad del Saber”.
In the Ciudad del Saber many events are happening every day. Conferences, music and even an event for 2 consecutive days once a month, which is the Mercado Urbano (Urban Market). This is a market where you can find organic products for good prices. We bought a wonderful jelly called "Lo Tuyo" and we eat a very delicious banana cake.
Close to where the market happens is also possible to rent bicycles and there is a food place called La Plaza, where you can fill your bottle of water using a drinking fountain with a counter of how many bottles were saved for using it.
